Active Since: 2013 (office active since 2008)

The State of Texas receives approximately 4,500 refugees a year and a large percentage of these refugees are resettling in Houston, Texas. In addition, Houston is a hub for immigrants from diverse backgrounds. Since 2013, IEDA Relief has offered a variety of US programs to help refugees, asylum seekers, immigrants and other indigent communities in the Houston area. Like its international programs, IEDA Relief’s Houston programs emphasize establishing a path towards self-sufficiency.

Driver’s Education Course

In 2016, IEDA Relief has launched the Driver’s Education Course; open to refugees, asylum seekers, immigrants, and any other individuals seeking to improve their driving abilities . The 6-Hour Permit Course is $75 and hosted on Saturdays from 10:00 am-4:00 pm. For more information on attending the course, contact timothym@iedarelief.org. English as a Second Language (ESL)

IEDA Relief’s Houston office offers free ESL classes for refugees, asylum seekers, new immigrants and other Limited English Proficiency (LEP) populations. Courses are developed in partnership with other adult literacy agencies, and designed to address different proficiency levels. Since 2013, IEDA Relief’s Programs have helped over 250 students improve their English skills. View/Download the latest ESL Schedule

CITIZENSHIP

IEDA Relief hosts citizenship courses to help familiarize students with US history, government and culture and to prepare them for the citizenship process. Courses are offered free of charge to registered students that can demonstrate basic English skills. View/Download the Citizenship Flyer

COMPUTER LITERACY SCHEDULE

Saturday: 9:30am-11:00am

Our Intensive Computer Literacy class teaches our students the basic of computer, Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint presentation to enhance their ability in the workforce and facilitate their daily life.  We empower our students to advantage of different tools and technologies available at their disposal.

IEDA Relief’s Houston programs are constantly expanding and will soon include, financial literacy, and other courses that can further increase and facilitate self-sufficiency.

IEDA Relief provides quality, affordable legal assistance regarding immigration and other issues. Led by IEDA Relief’s own BIA-accredited representative and managing attorney, the program provides service both in-house and through external partnerships with other attorneys, university clinics and local organizations. Consultations are offered for a $30 fee during our Friday walk-in sessions. Download Info Brochure

Interpretation & Translation 

IEDA Relief offers translation and interpretation services on a case-by-case basis for a variety of clients. Our team of talented interpreters and translators provides a wide range of services in over 30 languages for legal, educational, medical and other purposes.

Case Management

We provide multifaceted assistance to help our clients increase their self-sufficiency on a case-by-case basis. After assessing the needs of vulnerable clients, IEDA Relief provides in-house services such as interpretation, transportation, etc., or refers the client to another local agency if necessary. Our capacity is constantly expanding to serve more beneficiaries in different ways.

From IEDA Relief’s Houston headquarters, we ensure that the communities and causes relevant to our work get the recognition they deserve. By participating in local, national, and international dialogues, events and initiatives, IEDA Relief advocates on behalf of the populations we serve.
